In California, the state budget crunches are so hard the schools are letting their sports teams go. Many sports that are not considered main stream have lost their funding. Even teams that were in the play-offs were cut at many schools. Many Parents and students alike were stunned when they were told there would not be a school team even if they raised the money for it privately. The schools were interested in funding with teams that could be ‘guaranteed’ every year. Funding for the current year was not enough to turn the school boards decisions around.
